Rawon is a traditional Indonesian beef soup originating from East Java, but this recipe adapts it for chicken and uses the convenient Wahyu Brand Rawon instant cooking paste.
Ingredients:
- 6 pieces of chicken
- 4-6 tablespoons Wahyu Rawon instant cooking paste
- 1 cup of water
- 4 tablespoons of oil
- 1 large-size onion, chopped
- 4 kaffir lime leaves
- Beansprouts and red chilli for garnish
- Wahyu Brand Sambal Belacan (optional)
- Steamed rice or noodles for serving
Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and saute until fragrant.
2. Add Wahyu Rawon paste and stir-fry for 1 minute.
3. Add chicken pieces and stir to coat with the paste. Cook for 5 minutes.
4. Pour in water, and add kaffir lime leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.
5.Garnish with beansprouts with slices chilli and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
Note: You can adjust the amount of Wahyu Rawon paste to your desired level of spiciness and flavour with the amount of paste and sambal belacan used.
Tips:
- Use a mixture of chicken pieces for a more flavourful dish.
- Add other ingredients like potatoes or carrots to make the dish more hearty.
